CoP Mission Advice Empty CoP Mission Advice

Post  Baraxcus Wed May 26, 2010 10:35 pm

I am reposting this from our Linkshell Community board so everyone can view it here.

Droewyn, who is a linkshell member of XternalSoulz, provided our linkshell with very useful information she posted back in April 2008, when doing Chains of Promathia missions.

Unsolicited CoP advice
My static uses two information sources, the ffxiclopedia CoP walkthrough, and the "For Glory" walkthrough. "For Glory" is very detailed and is an excellent resource.

General CoP hints:

1. EVERY SINGLE PERSON should have read up on (and preferably have access to either a printout copy or the guides on a second computer) the mission that you plan on doing and have a general idea of strategies BEFORE you . You will probably have to tweak your strategy based on what jobs you have, but it helps so much if everyone knows basically what is going on beforehand.

2. EVERY SINGLE PERSON needs to have GOOD level capped gear, and hp/mp items based on job. Reraise items are highly recommended for everyone, but are pretty much required for white mages. Icarus wings are highly helpful. If you have a problem with spending ~10,000 gil per fight on hi-potions, poison potions, yag drinks, etc., then don't even bother going to CoP. These are not fights that you can win with no items and half-assed equipment. I can't stress this enough.

3. If the fight has an optional item that debuffs the boss (anima, mistmelt, etc.), GET IT. Get as many as you can carry; you can always sell off the extras on the AH later. These give you such an advantage, it's not even funny. These should be given to the tank and/or DD to use; don't make the WHM choose between using a debuff item and curing you. You'll probably wind up dead either way.

4. Have the cut scene done before you to do the mission. Also, have your level cap gear and other items on hand. There is nothing more annoying than having to wait 2 hours for someone to get their gear off of mules, and run around doing cut scenes while you're supposed to be fighting already.

5. If the mission involves a BC fight, do a dry run or two. No items, no 2 hours, just reraise on the WHM so she can raise you when you wipe (when everyone dies in the BC, wait 3 min to be kicked out). This is a great way to give everyone an idea of what fighting the boss is like, with no penalty. It's also a fantastic way of testing your strategy; if you die 20 seconds after you enter the BC, you know your strategy needs work. If you get the boss to a quarter health before you wipe, then you can be pretty sure you'll kick its ass when you start using debuff items, icarus wings, and 2-hrs. You don't lose exp in mission BCs anymore, so you can do this as many times as you like!

6. You DO lose EXP if you die while on your way to the BC, so be careful. Keep everyone together. Practice your mad stealth skills by running a level 1 character to Jeuno. Again, the WHM needs to have reraise, and everyone else in the party needs to be focused on keeping the WHM alive. You can't raise the WHM, so if she dies you're walking home.

7. If you fail, have a meeting to discuss what went wrong and what you think could be improved. Maybe you just had bad luck and your strategy is ok. Maybe you need to fix things, and if so, talking out what worked and what didn't is really helpful. A good way to do this is for everyone to post their impressions here on the forums. Here's an example of a strategy discussion we did after the last Zilart mission: http://deathsquaddl.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=126905&ForumID=596994&TabID=1081255&TopicID=4915030

CoP missions are one of the hardest things you can do in this game, but they're also the most rewarding when you work together to get a win.

Thank you Droewyn for providing our linkshell with such useful information.

By the way, the "For Glory" website (link) doesn't seem to be working at the moment.
